Meditation

Simply relax.

"Meditation" has become so popular lately, but also comes with a bit of mystique and can be intimidating to newcomers.

Let's keep it simple.

Here are some good ideas to enhance your relaxation and promote recovery, whether between heavy strength training sessions or stressful days in the office.

1.) Wear an Eye Mask

Wearing an eye mask during your stress-recovery sessions helps to block out unwanted, distracting light. This will help your brain relax.

2.) Binaural beats

Search " Binaural Beats " on YouTube, Pandora, or Spotify, and millions results appear. Use headphones to listen during your meditation or de-stress sessions at home. The left ear and right ear receive different frequencies of sound, encouraging the shift of brainwaves to ones of relaxation. The use of headphones is important, as the effectiveness of the music is lost by using speakers.

3.) Lie flat with pillows under the knees

Lie down as comfortable as possible. Use pillows to support your head and neck area, as well as a pillow under your knees. I enjoy pillows on either side of my body, creating a "cocoon" feel!

4.) weighted blanket

For relaxation, de-stressing, and meditation, weighted blankets are great! Get one that weighs around 10% of your body weight. This will be heavy enough to feel but not heavy enough to feel trapped!

5.) Timer and A 'do-not-disturb' sign

If you are doing these sessions midday (and possibly during work hours!) remember to set a timer. Following these steps will encourage relaxation and possibly sleep. Post a sign letting others know to not bother you as well!
